Cañadas en Los Comondúes
Like an opening in the heart of the La Giganta Mountain Range, a hidden and fertile canyon, measuring 16 kilometers long and an average of 800 meters wide (10 miles long and ½ mile wide), is the setting for two picturesque and old towns called San Miguel and San José de Comondú, the Comondúes. The short 3 kilometers (2 miles) that separate these two towns is easily crossed under the shade of tall palm trees and along cliffs, with the soft sounds of murmuring water running through its channels.
Dedicated to ranching and horticulture (mango, date, avocado, plum, fig and guava orchards), its rough terrain spattered with traces of its history (architectural remains and cave and rock paintings) presents the ideal conditions for taking part in eco-tourism as well as adventure, rural and cultural tourism. During their visit through these areas, visitors can take advantage of the chance to shop for handcraft creations made from natural elements like palm thatch hats, baskets, and bags as well as stone and wooden figures.
