Cabañas en Presa Peñitas
The first Spanish authority arrived around 1741 and the town was originated at a place called Ciénegas de San Pedro Nahuérachi; where many years later, the loading station for the mills of the Sierra Madre Land Lumber Company was established.
This city, located 173 miles from Chihuahua has progressed remarkably in agriculture, cattle-breeding, lumber and tourist facilities.
Nearby are ideal spots for camping, fishing and season hunting at Presa Peñitas (Peñitas dam), which is full of ducks and Canadian geese during the winter.
A trip to the Huápoca Canyon is a must, with the Papigochi River running at the bottom.
Madera became the natural point of departure to visit the numerous enigmatic archeological sites of the Paquimé Culture.
Peñitas Dam
This beautiful dam is located seven miles North of Madera, one can fish for trout there. You can also stay at one of the Hostal two-floor log cabins.
During the winter, migrating waterfowl from Canada arrives to the lake enhancing the spectacle.
Landscape here is ideal for the practice of hiking, camping, mountain biking and boat riding.
