Rioverde

Plaza Constitución

When the arrival of the Spanish to this diverse and fertile region, a mixing of cultures be­gan, which produced a feeling that today, can still be appreciated in every corner of Ríoverde. As a potential commercial and agricultural center for the area, Ríoverde is home to a community of people with a promising future. They are sur­rounded by bountiful natural resources and driven by a strong cultural legacy that has always defined them.

Constitution Plaza

Scene of numerous historical events, and sur­rounded by emblematic civil, religious and com­mercial buildings, this fresh and relaxing space is the exact image of the tranquil and congenial personality of Ríoverde.

Santa Catarina de Alejandría Church

Constructed in 1782, Santa Catarina de Alejandría Church’s vestibule exhibits the sculpture of friar Juan Bautista de Mollinedo, who, at the beginning of the seventeenth century, founded this historic mission.

Municipal Institute of Art and Culture (IMAC)

The Municipal Institute of Art and Culture was once a one-room house in the eighteenth century and later a municipal jail in the nineteenth century. It offers, in its wide spaces, art exhibitions and an auditorium with multiple uses (theatrical perfor­mances, conferences, etc.). It still retains some fea­tures from its prison days. Regional Museum of Ríoverde

The Regional Museum of Ríoverde is housed in a historic mansion divided into three rooms. Exhib­its include fossils, petroglyphs (carved stones) and archaeological pieces (pottery, necklaces, arrow­heads, etc.) found in the region. Guided tours are available. (Tue- Sat from 9 am to 1 pm and 4 pm to 8 pm Sun from 9 am to 4 pm).

Colibrí Interactive Museum

A playful and educational space where children and adults interact through different activities re­lated to simple scientific experiments. Also, a recre­ational park offers the combination of playground equipment and an authentic greenhouse. Guided tours are available. (Tue- Fri from 9 am to 2 pm and from 4 pm to 7 pm; Sat- Sun from 10 am to 6 pm Tel. 487 8723 736).

Half Moon Lagoon

Sometimes nature succeeds in creating places that are both pleasant and amazing; such is the case for the fresh thermal water spring in the Half Moon La­goon. It is formed from an inverted volcano and is filled with transparent, blue waters that allow visibil­ity up to 30 meters (98 feet). In addition to being con­sidered the most important spring in the whole state from a scientific, historical and ecological point of view, it has turned into one of the most appreciated places of amateur and experienced divers. Impressive sunken cypress trees, unique aquatic species and an amazing cavern are all part of this incredible oasis.

Divina Pastora Temple

Located in the Pastora neighborhood plaza, this magnificent architectural work of the eighteenth century is an example of San Luis Potosí’s Baroque influence. Under its roof of wooden beams, a beauti­ful Baroque altarpiece is preserved. (32 kilometers (20 miles) from Rioverde).

Los Peroles Spring

With temperatures that range from 28 to 30 de­grees Centigrade (82 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit) the whole year, this isolated, crystal clear water spring is complemented by natural wildlife and is surrounded by thousands of trees. (38 kilometers (24 miles) from Ríoverde, off the new superhighway at kilometer marker 5. Take the turn off to the San Francisco public lands and continue to The Sabinito).

San Sebastián Spring

The San Sebastian Spring is an excellent place to camp and fish. This source of crystal clear water has helped many people with its curative and revitalizing properties. (38 kilometers (24 miles) from Ríoverde on the highway to San Ciro Acosta).

Caves

Speleology (the study of caves) has two of its most fascinating environments in the caves known as El Catedral and El Ángel. These caves are character­ized by their fantastic stony forms in their enormous caverns. 11 kilometers (7 miles) from Rioverde. Take the turnoff at the village of San José de las Flores. Continue for 20 kilometers (12 miles).
